Quetico: One of those special sweet spots on Earth

Quetico Park is one of those places on earth that seem to be special. I've sensed this in a variety of places from Guatemala's Lake Atitlan, to the Hawaiian Islands, Oaxaca, Mexico, Chiricuahua National Monument in Arizona, my Cleveland backyard to the Allegheny National Forest.
Canadian Shield has this quality and is especially concentrated in Quetico. I felt at home on the massive, ancient rocks. The pines exuded a warm spicy scent and the water was clean, pure and tinted blackbrown with tannic acid.
Rivers sparkled and were paddle-able upstream and down. Rapids and falls featured scenic portages.
Mornings were crisp, yet atmospheric.
Reed and needle silhouettes suggest primordial calligraphy.

Canadian light is precise and uncomplicated.

Sky and water contrast in inexplicable ways.

Abstracted landforms beckon and whisper.

Clouds drain heated color from the sun,
then ignite, intensify and redouble the afterglow.

Sweet, yes?
